How Travel Can Change Your Perspective on Life
Today’s guest post is by Rebecca Brown. Rebecca, who also goes by Becca, is a translator by day and a runner by night. She spends a third of her life on planes, and the rest wondering where her job will take her next. You can read more about her exploits at RoughDraft. Today she discusses how travel changes our perspective on life.
Did you know traveling can change the way you view yourself, the world, and the people around you? Sure, a lot of people travel to get away from their mundane routines, but it can also really open your eyes. Moving out of your usual comfort zone and taking on new adventures will only enrich your life, and you will come home a wiser person. Here are a few ways that traveling can actually be a game changer.
#1 – Travel Allows You to Meet People from Different Cultures
Each and every city in the world is full of people you have never met. Each culture is different, with its own unique customs and traditions. Meeting people from different cultures can actually help you diversify your life. You will learn things from others, and you can also appreciate the kindness that people show – even to complete strangers. This not only opens you up to learning more about others, but also to learn true empathy and how to connect with other people who may have different values.
#2 – Travel Allows You to See What You Truly Value in Life
If someone were to ask you what you valued about life, what would you say? The truth is that a lot of people really don’t know exactly what it is they value. Sure, most people value their friendships and their families, but what else? What do you enjoy? Do you enjoy art? Do you value diversity? Do you love to cook? Traveling can open up new doors when it comes to enjoyable activities and can help you focus more time on the things you value most. This is something you can take back with you during your daily routine as well, bringing you a bit more joy in life.
#3 – Travel Can Broaden Your Horizons
Meeting people from different walks of life, and seeing how people’s lives are in other cultures can really broaden your horizons. It can help you enjoy experiences you may never have been able to enjoy from your hometown. Exploring new areas can be fun and exciting, and it can also help to clear your mind from the daily grind back home. You can try new foods and new activities, helping you be more cultured.
#4 – Travel Gives You the Ability to See the Sights and Splendors of the World
The world is a beautiful place! Traveling is a great way to see the many splendors this planet has to offer. One of the best ways you can sightsee and really get involved is by taking a walking holiday. One of the best walking holidays to take is the Camino de Santiago. These walking routes lead you to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. See the sights during the day, walking at your own pace between four and eight hours per day. Each night, you will be able to sleep comfortably at one of the many resort hotels. Consider a shorter holiday of just a few days, or go all out with a holiday that lasts for weeks. No other type of holiday will help you broaden your horizons and learn more about our delightful planet. I arranged mine through Follow the Camino, and it is to this day the best holiday I have ever been on.
As you can see, traveling is a great way to give you a different perspective on life. If you are looking for a way to just unwind, while also broadening your cultural horizons – definitely plan a holiday getaway. It is good for your mind, body, and spirit. Just getting away from the repetition of day-to-day life in and of itself can really be a mood-lifter!
