On Tuesday, January 12, three of the four #TRLT team members – founder Shane Dallas (@TheTravelCamel), founder Savannah Grace (@Sihpromatum), and host Jessica Lipowski (@JLipowski) – were in the same location: Utrecht, Netherlands. Shane flew in from Kenya for the Vakantiebeurs as a keynote speaker. Savannah and Jessica drove in from Alkmaar and Amsterdam respectively, both to network at the trade show and hear Shane speak. We felt this special occasion called for a celebration: a #TRLT meet-up. The Grand Hotel Karel V graciously hosted our travel event, and the group of 15 was easily accommodated in the Koning Willem I room. Thank you so much to everyone who joined – both online and off-line. Read about the full event here and see the photos.
Amsterdam is a beautiful destination, with its charming canals, cute cobblestone streets, attractive architecture, and fascinating history. The city boasts numerous attractions, offering a little something for all ages. With such variety, it can be difficult to determine where to start. The next time you visit the Dutch capital, there are a few things you should not miss. This article outlines the top five reasons to visit Amsterdam. In addition, some additional resources are provided, such as helpful tips and links.
On Thursday, December 3, #CultureTrav and #JAChat teamed up to host a special #JACultureTrav Twitter extravaganza. The online portion of the event took place at 2:30pm EST (8:30pm CET), and people chimed in from all over the world to discuss the topic “Travel Inspiration.” In honor of this special occasion, we decided to hold in-person meet-ups on the same day: one in New York City, one in Chicago and one in Amsterdam. I led the Amsterdam meet-up, graciously hosted by The Hoxton Hotel. Thank you so much to everyone who joined – both online and off-line. It was a fantastic collaboration!
This Wednesday I am very excited to be guest hosting #ANZTravelChat, which starts at 9:00 a.m. in the UK. Together with Dorothée Lefering, we will be discussing the topic “Food.” Food is one of my favorite topics for many reasons.
On Monday, November 9 I will be guest hosting #MeAndMySuitcase. Together with founder Stuti Shrimali, we will be discussing “Health,” as November is the month of health. Health and hygiene are very important in my opinion, whether you are at home or on the road, and good habits are the foundation. While traveling, there are a few simple things you can do to keep healthy that will not feel overbearing or cumbersome.
On Thursday, 29 October the #CultureTrav community discussed the topic “Movies” together with special guest host Erik Scalavino. Following the chat, I collected the names of all the movies mentioned. Read on to see the list of foreign films and travel-related movies in alphabetical order.
As 2015 comes to a close, #CultureTrav and #JAChat are teaming up for a #JACultureTrav Twitter party extravaganza! In honor of this special occasion and the upcoming holidays, we are celebrating on Thursday, 3 December in a variety of ways.
The second I cracked open Doni Belau’s new book “Paris Cocktails,” I developed a renewed desire to travel to Paris. Her elegantly written descriptions and witty wording, combined with perfectly-paired imagery and illustrations, made me want to be right there alongside the author, sipping a cocktail in the city where many famous writers have called home. Read a review of her book and take a trip down memory lane as I recount my last trip to the “City of Love.”
From the first year we visited when I was only seven years old until I graduated from high school at 18, my Aunt Linda and I stayed at Ranch Rudolf (RR) year after year without fail. When I went off to Michigan State University and later moved to the Netherlands, the tradition ended. Until this summer.
On Thursday, August 6th I had the opportunity to meet the founder of #CultureTrav and my co-host Nicolette Orlemans of Culture With Travel in person. The two of us talk via social media almost daily, so it was special to meet up (finally!) in Amsterdam. Maaike van Kuijk of Travellous World, a regular #CultureTrav chatter whom I had met prior, was able to join us, as well.
We had ideal weather and a day filled with meaningful discussions – about travel, culture and friendship. We ended the gathering with #CultureTrav, an online travel-related Twitter chat that takes place every Thursday at 2:30 p.m. EST (8:30 p.m. CET). This week in particular was extra special, as we planned to discuss the topic “Memories.” The chat brought back some fond memories. The timing was also fitting as I just returned from the United States, where I was visiting family and going through old photo albums and pictures. All of these activities combined made me nostalgic, and I would like to share some of these wonderful travel and childhood memories with you.
